Darrow opened in the fall of 1932 as the Lebanon School for Boys. In 1938 president Charles S. Haight died and C. Lambert Heyniger purchased the school, becoming its headmaster and treasurer. Heyniger was a Princeton alumnus who had taught as a missionary in China and then pursued graduate study at Columbia University before joining General Motors.
Darrow School offers 13 interscholastic sports: Alpine Skiing, Basketball, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Martial Arts, Paddle Tennis, Rock Climbing, Snowboarding, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Ultimate Frisbee and Weightlifting. Darrow School is ranked as one of the top 20% of private schools in New York for most sports offered.
Every Darrow student has a faculty advisor who supports the student in navigating academic and personal challenges and understands the student’s total experience. The advisor also corresponds with parents to update them about how their child is doing. Faculty advisors provide a critical connection between parents and the school community.

13 de feb. de 2024 · One of my mother’s students saw my handwriting and said, “Oh, your son is dyslexic, so is mine!” I was tested as being an extreme dyslexic and dysgraphic. I struggled with reading and writing all my life. I was held back in 9th grade. And I hated school. Darrow was an amazing turning point.
