Carla Venita Thomas (born December 21, 1942) is an American singer, who is often referred to as the Queen of Memphis Soul. She is best known for her 1960s recordings for Atlantic and Stax including the hits " Gee Whiz (Look at His Eyes) " (1960), " B-A-B-Y " (1966) and "Tramp" (1967), a duet with Otis Redding .

Carla Thomas, the Memphis Queen of Soul, was the one who shot Stax Records into Soul Orbit back in 1962 with "Gee Whiz", and who would remain a consistent hitmaker well into the early '70s. 'Comfort Me' was her third album, and although far more 'poppy' in sound than other Stax LPs of the day, it's still too gritty and raw to be passed off as anything but Southern Soul.
