Hace 2 días · In 1064 William invaded Brittany in a campaign that remains obscure in its details. Its effect, though, was to destabilise Brittany, forcing the duke, Conan II, to focus on internal problems rather than on expansion. Conan's death in 1066 further secured William's borders in Normandy.

Hace 2 días · Brittany. In 1148, Conan III, Duke of Brittany, died, leaving behind two children. Although his son Hoël was the natural choice to succeed to the ducal throne, evidence suggests that Hoël was illegitimate and instead he was only recognised as Count of Nantes.

The couple's son, Arthur I, Duke of Brittany , was a competitor to his uncle John for the Angevin succession and disappeared mysteriously as an adolescent in 1203.
