Dorothea Sophie of Neuburg (5 July 1670 – 15 September 1748) was Duchess of Parma from 1695 to 1727 by marriage to Francesco, Duke of Parma. She served as Regent of the Duchy of Parma for her grandson Charles of Spain between 1731 and 1735.
Life. Dorothea was born in Kaiserslautern, the only surviving child of the Count Palatine John Casimir of Simmern (1543–1592) from his marriage to Elisabeth (1552–1590), the daughter of Elector August of Saxony . She married on 21 February 1595 in Heidelberg to Prince John George I of Anhalt-Dessau (1567–1618). She was his second wife.

Jewellery from the coffin of Countess Palatine Dorothea Sabina of Palatinate-Neuburg (1576-1598) Dorothea Sabina of Palatinate-Neuburg was born in 1576 as the second daughter of Philip Ludwig of Palatinate-Neuburg (1547-1614) and Anna of Jülich-Kleve-Berg (1552-1632) at Neuburg Castle, where she died in 1598 at the age of 22.
The materials alone show that this garment was worn by a princess; other women were forbidden to wear such precious clothing. Dorothea Sabina of Palatinate-Neuburg died at the age of only 21 and was buried in this gown. The garment embodies the Spanish courtly fashion prevalent in Europe, albeit of an Italian cut that was popular in Bavaria.
