Official website. Dione Angela Grimston, Countess of Verulam, CVO (née Smith; born 19 July 1954) is a British artist and former Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire . The daughter of Jeremy Smith and Julia Burrell, she is maternally granddaughter of Sir Walter Burrell, 8th Baronet.

The ruins of Old Gorhambury House, the ramshackle medieval family seat in England from the 1670s until the family built the new Gorhambury House. The "new" Gorhambury House was built by Viscount Grimston in 1777–84. Earl of Verulam is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1815 for James Grimston, 4th Viscount Grimston.

John Duncan Grimston, 7th Earl of Verulam (born 21 April 1951), styled Viscount Grimston between 1960 and 1973, is a British peer. Early life and education. Grimston was born in 1951, the only son of John Grimston, 6th Earl of Verulam. He succeeded in the earldom in 1973 on the death of his father. He was educated at West Downs School and Eton .

Lady Verulam, the Countess of Verulam, is currently The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, appointed by HM The Queen upon the retirement of Simon Bowes Lyon KCVO in June 2007. She was High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 2002/3.
Lady Dione, The Countess of Verulam CG. Patron. Lady Verulam succeeded Sir Simon Bowes-Lyon as the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire in June 2007. She retired from the role in August 2017 but continues as a Deputy Lieutenant. She is a liveryman of The Goldsmiths’ Company. She was High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 2002/3.

On 21st February 1953 he married Julia Burrell (1934-2004), they had 4 children, 2 sons Julian and Hugo and 2 daughter Dione and Sarah (1962-2018).
The Lord-Lieutenant is absolutely delighted to advise that Dione, Countess of Verulam, has been appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) by Her Majesty the Queen. Admission to the Order is at the sole discretion of The Queen and recognises distinguished personal service to The Monarch.
