1 de may. de 2024 · According to the band’s guitarist, Dave Davies, he had come up with the iconic riff while playing around with a new guitar amp that he had slashed a hole into with a razor blade, in an attempt to get a grittier, distorted sound. This raw, primal riff was the catalyst for the song’s creation.

They were huge fans of the Kingsmen's "Louie Louie" and Dave Davies remembered the song inspiring Ray's singing, saying in an interview: We played that record over and over. And Ray copied a lot of his vocal style from that guy [Jack Ely].

When the Kinks came onto the scene in 1964, I bought their singles, one after another; when the band appeared on “Shindig!,” I was spellbound.

Written by Ray Davies, the track was first featured on The Kinks self-titled debut studio album released in 1964. Then it was covered by The Pretenders 15 years later on their self-titled debut record released in 1979.
