Leben. David Hume verfasste wenige Monate vor seinem Tod (datiert auf den 18. April 1776) seine Vita in Form einer autobiographischen Skizze. Er wurde 1711 in Edinburgh nach einem Bruder John (* 1709) und einer Schwester Catharine (* 1710) als zweiter Sohn eines als Anwalt tätigen verarmten Adeligen, Joseph Home of Ninewells in Chirnside Berwickshire, geboren und auf den Namen David Home getauft.
