David Wark Griffith was an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is considered one of the pioneers of cinema and one of the most important and influential directors of all time. Griffith was born in La Grange, Kentucky, on January 22, 1875. After dropping out of college, he began working as a journalist in Louisville, Kentucky.
