What We Do. History. From its inception in 1907 as the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning, the Katz Center has played a central role in advancing the study of Judaism in the United States.
Ultimately, its significance is based as much on its singular history as on its numbers and quality. The CJS Library is the permanent home of the extant library collection of the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning. Dropsie College was founded in Philadelphia in 1907 under Jewish auspices.
