Dugald Stewart FRSE FRS (/ ˈ dj uː ɡ əl d /; 22 November 1753 – 11 June 1828) was a Scottish philosopher and mathematician. Today regarded as one of the most important figures of the later Scottish Enlightenment , he was renowned as a populariser of the work of Francis Hutcheson and of Adam Smith .

Educated at the University of Edinburgh , where his father was professor of mathematics, Stewart began teaching there when he was 19.
