Duke Ellington. Edward Kennedy «Duke» Ellington (født 29. april 1899 i Washington D.C., USA, død 24. mai 1974 i New York City, New York, USA) var en amerikansk jazzmusiker, pianist og orkesterleder. I tillegg både komponerte og arrangerte han musikk.
Biografie. Duke Ellington stammte aus dem schwarzen Kleinbürgertum Washingtons. Er war der Sohn des Oberkellners James Edward Ellington, der einmalig als Butler im Weißen Haus arbeitete. Später betrieb er einen Party-Service und versuchte seine Kinder zu erziehen, als würden sie in einem wohlhabenden, gutbürgerlichen Haushalt aufwachsen.
