Roxy Music, particularly the album's LP incarnation, has been released in different packages over the years. The album's original cover, as issued in 1972 by Island Records , featured a gatefold sleeve picturing the band (including original bass guitarist Graham Simpson) in stage attire designed by Antony Price , [4] and did not include the track " Virginia Plain ".
"The Early Years", I have always found it a bit difficult to enjoy early Roxy Music as I do the later & Bryan Ferry. This time, after being more convinced about their importance and very high respect in art rock genre, I nearly succeeded: I thought yeah, this is clever, witty, original, quirky, parodic, etc and not so difficult to digest as I thought before.
The Early Years covers my favourite phase of Roxy Music’s career – the Eno years and immediately after his departure, when they were still trying to impress with their musical adventurousness, instead of becoming some sort of audio equivalent of a lifestyle magazine.
In its early years, Roxy Music came across as decadent dandies disguised as avant-garde rock revolutionaries (or maybe vice versa).
