Eduard Tisse was born on April 13, 1897 in Libava, Grobina uyezd, Courland Governorate, Russian Empire [now Liepaja, Latvia]. He was a cinematographer and director, known for Ivan the Terrible, Part I (1944) , Battleship Potemkin (1925) and The Immortal Garrison (1956) .
