He joined the RAF on a short service commission and began his training on 6th March 1939 at 8 E&RFTS Woodley. John Digby Leach was born on November 25, 1897 at Yarm on Tees in North Yorkshire, England, to John Frederick Wilson Leach and his wife Edith Leach, nee Howcroft.
