She was a daughter of Edward the Elder, king of the Anglo-Saxons and his second wife Ælfflæd. [1] In 926 Edward's son, king Æthelstan , received an embassy from his cousin, Adelolf, Count of Boulogne , on behalf of Hugh, and Æthelstan agreed to give his half-sister, Eadhild, in marriage in return for an enormous quantity of gifts and relics.

12 de mar. de 2024 · Edward the Elder (c. 874 – 17 July 924) was King of the Anglo-Saxons from 899 until his death in 924. He was the elder son of Alfred the Great and his wife Ealhswith . When Edward succeeded to the throne, he had to defeat a challenge from his cousin Æthelwold , who had a strong claim to the throne as the son of Alfred's elder brother and predecessor, Æthelred I .
Edmund I (922 – 26 May 946), the Elder, the Deed-Doer or the Magnificent, was King of England from 939 until his death. He was a son of Edward the Elder and a half-brother of Athelstan. Edmund was the first king to start his rule with a united England. Early in his rule, the Norse king, Olaf Guthfrithson, took back much of the north of England.

He faced a challenge to the throne from Aethelwold, his cousin, who had been considered too young to rule after his father Aethelred I. Aethelwold allied himself with the Vikings in the hope of defeating Edward but was killed in battle in 902.
