Euphemia Chalmers Gray was born on 7 May 1828 to Sophia Margaret Gray ( née Jameson; 1808–1894) and George Gray (1798–1877) in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. Her father was a lawyer and businessman and her maternal grandfather, Andrew Jameson, was Sheriff-substitute of Fife. [2]
