  1. George Howard, 6th Earl of Carlisle of Castle Howard, KG, PC, FRS (17 September 1773 – 7 October 1848), styled Viscount Morpeth until 1825, was a British statesman. He served as Lord Privy Seal between 1827 and 1828 and in 1834 and was a member of Lord Grey's Whig government as Minister without Portfolio between 1830 and 1834.

  3. Charles Howard (1629-85), his great-grandson, was created Earl of Carlisle in 1661. His daughter Mary married Sir John Fenwick, on whose execution in 1697 some of the Fenwick property in Northumberland was granted to the Earl of Carlisle. Additions were also made to the Co. Durham estates in the 1690s, by purchase from the Fetherstonhaugh family.
