Married Lord Douro, eldest son of the general in 1839. Became Duchess of Wellington on her husband's accession in 1852 and was appointed Mistress of the Robes in 1861, continuing as such under Lords Palmerston, Russell, Derby and Disraeli, until 1880,…. except from 1868-1874. Survived her husband by exactly twenty years. They had no children.
Elizabeth Wellesley, Duchess of Wellington (née Hay; 27 September 1820 – 13 August 1904) was a daughter of the 8th Marquess of Tweeddale. Her husband, Lord Douro , succeeded his father as Duke of Wellington in 1852.

Dorothy Ashton married Lord Gerald Wellesley (later 7th Duke of Wellington), on 30 April 1914; they separated in 1922 but did not divorce.
