Ernest (24 March 1441 – 26 August 1486), known as Ernst in German, was Elector of Saxony from 1464 to 1486. Ernst was the founder and progenitor of the Ernestine line of Saxon princes.
This is one of a set of twelve oval portraits in matching frames of members of the Hanoverian royal family (406587-90 and 401339-46), only six of which are catalogued by Oliver Millar (OM 634-9 and 1218). Ernest Augustus ( German: Ernst August; 20 November 1629 – 23 January 1698), Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, was Prince of Calenberg from 1679 until his death, and father of George I of Great Britain. He was appointed as the ninth prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire in 1692.
