Pattensen near Hanover is home to the former ancestral seat of the Guelphs, the oldest princely family in Europe – Marienburg Castle. In the middle of the 19th century, King George V of Hanover gave the castle to his wife, Queen Marie. According to legend, it was previously inhabited by dwarves.
