Nikolaus, Hereditary Grand Duke of Oldenburg (German: Nikolaus Friedrich Wilhelm von Holstein-Gottorp, Erbgroßherzog von Oldenburg; 10 August 1897 – 3 April 1970) was the eldest son of Frederick Augustus II, Grand Duke of Oldenburg, who was the last ruling Grand Duke of Oldenburg.

Christian, Duke of Oldenburg (German: Christian Nikolaus Udo Peter Herzog von Oldenburg; born 1 February 1955) is the head of the Grand Ducal Family of Oldenburg which is a side line of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, the latter being one of several branches of the larger House of Oldenburg.
The Augusteum was built in 1865/67 by the Oldenburg Grand Duke Nikolaus Friedrich Peter in the style of the Italian Renaissance. The first art gallery in Oldenburg was intended as a richly appointed presentation setting for the Grand Ducal paintings.
23 de ene. de 2019 · The full second floor was added later on by the future Grand Duke Nikolaus Friedrich Peter - Those Oldenburgs do love their triple names, don't they?! - in his day as the Hereditary Grand Duke. It was also Nikolaus Friedrich Peter who gave the small palace its current outer appearance combining historicism and Gründerzeit elements alike during renovation works carried out in 1882.
