Fish Out of Water is an album by jazz saxophonist Charles Lloyd recorded in July 1989 and released on ECM the following year. The quartet features rhythm section Bobo Stenson, Palle Danielsson and Jon Christensen.

In the 90s Bobo was part of Charles Lloyd’s quartet, appearing on the albums Fish Out of Water (1990), Notes From Big Sur (1992), The Call (1993), All My Relations (1995) and Canto (1997). He also played in Tomasz Stanko’s band at the time, recording the albums Matka Joanna (1995), Leosia (1997) and Litania (1997).
The saxophonist’s 1989 ECM quartet album Fish Out Of Water with Bobo Stenson, Palle Danielsson and Jon Christensen signalled a new beginning. Joining him and his new piano partner, Bobo Stenson, are Palle Danielsson on bass and Jon Christensen on drums -- the players who comprised the rhythm section of Keith Jarrett's famed European quartet.
