Frances Mary Lavinia Rossetti (née Polidori; 27 April 1800 – 8 April 1886) was a British educator who was the daughter, wife, sister and mother of important writers and artists. She was also a model of the paintings of her son Dante.
Background. Frances was the daughter of Anna Maria Pierce and Italian exile Gaetano Polidori and sister of John Polidori, author of The Vampyre and Lord Byron"s physician. Career. After Gabriele died she quickly burned the remaining copies of his book Il Mistero dell" Amor Platonico del Medio Evo.
In 1821, John Polidori took his own life with prussic acid over gambling debts which was a terrible blow to the Polidori family. Frances Rossetti treasured a Byronic portrait of her handsome brother, now in the National Portrait Gallery, and always displayed it in the family home.
