  4. Frances Smith Foster (born 1944) is an American researcher and emeritus Professor of African-American studies and women's history. She has previously served as the Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Women's Studies at Emory University .

  5. Biography. Frances Smith Foster joined the Emory faculty in 1994 and in 1996 was named Charles Howard Candler Professor of English and Women’s Studies. She was director of Women’s Studies (1999-2002) and Chair of the English department (2005-2008). In 2006 she was named University Scholar/Teacher of the Year.
