  3. Leeds, Francis Godolphin Osborne, 5th duke of (1751–99). Leeds was known as Lord Carmarthen till 1790, but sat in the Lords as Baron Osborne from 1776. A supporter of Lord North, he shifted to opposition and was punished, in 1780, with dismissal from his lord-lieutenancy (Yorkshire, East Riding).

  4. The Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire estates were later settled on Francis Godolphin Osborne, second son of the 5th Duke of Leeds, created Baron Godolphin of Farnham Royal 1832, whose son the 2nd Baron succeeded his cousin as 8th Duke in 1859. (The Cambridgeshire estate was sold in 1885.)
