Frank Cadogan Cowper RA RWS RP RWA (16 October 1877 – 17 November 1958) [1] was an English painter and illustrator of portraits, historical and literary scenes, also described as "The Last Pre-Raphaelite". Francis Cowper (14 January 1849 [1] [note 1] – 28 May 1930) [3] was an English yachtsman, author, illustrator and journalist who was influential in popularising single-handed cruising. [3] . He has been credited as "the forefather of modern cruising", [4] and his books "laid the foundation" of the pilot guides used by yachtsmen today. [5] .

OBITUARY.The Times Thursday 20th November 1958.Mr Frank Cadogen Cowper has died at the age of 81. Cowper was born at Wicken Rectory, Northamptonshire on the 16th October 1877. His father was Frank Cowper, author of several works on cruising and romantic tales, who married Edith daughter of the Reverend E Cadogen Rector of Wicken.
