The rebel Bohemians offered their crown to the Calvinist Frederick V of the Palatinate on 26 August 1619. The Thirty Years' War began in 1618 as a result of inadequacies of his predecessors Rudolf II and Matthias.

Hace 3 días · At its onset, the war was merely a conflict between the Catholic Austrian Habsburg Emperor and the Protestant Bohemian rebels and their protector, the Elector Palatine Frederick V. When the war broadened to also affect the Palatinate, it started to pull in other Protestant German princes, making it a broader but still German civil war.
