2 de may. de 2024 · On 4 February that year, following Asante efforts to protect the fort of Elmina over which they had a long-held claim, British forces under the command of Major-General Sir Garnet Wolseley launched a so-called punitive raid on the Asante state capital, Kumasi.
Hace 1 día · During the retreat back across the desert via Jakdul (the expedition had reached Khartoum too late to save Gordon) Major French led a rearguard of thirteen men, again warding off Dervish attacks and impressing Redvers Buller and Sir Garnet Wolseley. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on 7 February 1885.

In his diary on 20th August 1878 Wolseley expressed his frustration at the difficulties he faced in transforming Nicosia’s traditional ways of governance.
