Gavin Astor, 2nd Baron Astor of Hever DL (1 June 1918 – 28 June 1984), was an English soldier, publisher, peer, and member of the Astor family. Lord Astor served as chairman of the Times Publishing Company and president of the family owned Times Newspapers Ltd .

He was created 1 st Baron Astor of Hever in 1956. In 1962 John Jacob placed the Castle in trust for his son Gavin and retired to France where he died in 1971. In 1963 Gavin opened the Castle and gardens to the public for the first time.
She married Gavin Astor, later the 2nd Baron Astor of Hever, the eldest son of John Jacob Astor, 1st Baron Astor of Hever, and Violet Mary Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound on 4 October 1945. She became Lady Astor of Hever when her husband succeeded to the barony on the death of his father in 1971. [7]

Astor was born 16 June 1946. He is the eldest of the five children of Gavin Astor, 2nd Baron Astor of Hever, and Lady Irene Haig. Astor succeeded to the peerage after his father died from cancer in June 1984. His younger siblings are Bridget, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Philip.
