Halfway through the 1920s George Grosz’s gradual evolution towards more realist forms brought him close to Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity), the movement springing from the legendary programmatic exhibition by the same name, which was organized by the active director of the Kunsthalle Mannheim, Gustav Hartlaub, and defined a whole era.

George Grosz was a German artist known especially for his caricatural drawings and paintings of Berlin life in the 1920s. He was a prominent member of the Berlin Dada and New Objectivity groups during the Weimar Republic. He immigrated to the United States in 1933, and became a naturalized citizen in 1938.

14 de may. de 2022 · 1951 reiste Grosz das erste Mal seit seiner Emigration nach Deutschland. 1958 wurde er zum außerordentlichen Mitglied der Berliner Akademie der Künste gewählt. Auf Drängen seiner Frau Eva kehrte das Paar 1959 nach Berlin zurück. Kurz nach ihrer Rückkehr starb George Grosz mit 65 Jahren am 6. Juli 1959 nach einem Treppensturz.
