Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Granville (born 12 October 1773, christened 5 Nov 1773 Trentham – 8 January 1846). When Lord Stafford died at the age of 82, he was succeeded in his titles by his eldest son George from his second marriage who was created Duke of Sutherland in 1833. The Marchioness of Stafford died in August 1805.
Granville was the second son and youngest child of Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Marquess of Stafford from his marriage to Lady Susanna Stewart, daughter of Alexander Stewart, 6th Earl of Galloway. His elder, paternal half-brother was George Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland.
The Duke was MP for St. Mawes, 1808-1812, for Newcastle-under-Lyme, 1812-1815, and for Staffordshire, 1815-1820. He died on 22 February 1861. Their eldest son George Granville William (1828-1892), 3rd Duke of Sutherland, was MP for Sutherland, 1852-1861. He married Anne Hay-Mackenzie of Newhall and Cromartie on 27 June 1849.

She was the daughter of George Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland and Elizabeth Sutherland, Countess of Sutherland. 1,3 She married Richard Grosvenor, 2nd Marquess of Westminster, son of Robert Grosvenor, 1st Marquess of Westminster and Lady Eleanor Egerton, on 16 September 1819. 1 She died on 11 November 1891 at age 94. 1

His wife Harriet advocated for the abolition of slavery in America and, in 1853, hosted Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin , when she visited Britain.
