George Frederick Samuel Robinson was born in 1827 in 10 Downing Street when his father was Prime Minister. A large part of his childhood was spent at Nocton Hall where he obtained much of his education.

They appear in the 13th century as part of the endowment of the church of Ripon, together with a toft, or messuage, known as St. Wilfrid's House. This land was held of the Ripon Chapter by the lords of the manor of Hutton.
