GEORGE WILLIAM FREDERICK VILLIERS, CLARENDON 4TH Earl or (in the Villiers line) (1800-1870), English diplomatist and statesman, was born in London on the 12th of January 1800. He was the eldest son of Hon. George Villiers (1759-1827, youngest son of the 1st earl of Clarendon (second creation), by Theresa, only daughter of the first Lord Boringdon, and granddaughter of the first Lord Grantham.

After gaining his MA degree at St John's College Cambridge at the age of 20, Clarendon joined the diplomatic service, serving first as attaché to the British embassy in Saint Petersburg, and later campaigning for an end to slavery in Spanish colonies.

27 de nov. de 2023 · Born in 1841, Edith Villiers was the niece of the 4th Earl of Clarendon. In 1864, she was married to Robert Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Earl of Lytton, which made her the Countess of Lytton. In 1876, Lytton became the Viceroy of India, thus making Edith the Vicereine of the country. After he died, she became the lady-in-waiting for Queen Victoria.
