Gerhard Ludwig Müller (pronounced [ˈɡeːɐ̯haʁt ˈluːtvɪç ˈmʏlɐ]; born 31 December 1947) is a German cardinal of the Catholic Church. He served as the Cardinal-Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) from his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 until 2017.

Gerhard Ludwig Kardinal Müller (* 31. Dezember 1947 in Finthen, heute zu Mainz) [1] ist ein deutscher Theologe, Erzbischof und Kardinal der römisch-katholischen Kirche. Er war von 2002 bis 2012 Bischof von Regensburg und von 2012 bis 2017 Präfekt der Kongregation für die Glaubenslehre.
He served as president of the Commission for Ecumenical Relations of the German Bishops’ Conference and resumed theological discussions between the German Bishops’ Conference and the Moscow Patriarchate. In 2005, he carried out a reform of the diocesan lay apostolates from both a canon law and pastoral perspective.
