Revered as the father of European painting and the first of the great Italian masters, Giotto is known for his altarpieces and for the fresco cycle in the Arena Chapel, Padua, Italy.
Legado. La grandeza de Giotto no sólo fue reconocida por artistas durante su vida. También fue inmortalizado por su contemporáneo Dante en La Divina Comedia cuando un pintor en el Purgatorio (XI, 94-96) dice: “Cimabue creía ser el dueño del campo/de la pintura, y ahora es Giotto a quien se aclama,/ de modo que la fama del primero ha quedado oscurecida”.
