Giovanni Battista Riccioli (17. huhtikuuta 1598 Ferrara, Italia – 25. kesäkuuta 1671 Bologna, Italia) oli italialainen jesuiitta ja tähtitieteilijä.. Hän omisti uransa Kuun tutkimiselle yhdessä Francesco Maria Grimaldin kanssa ja hänen tärkeimpiin kirjallisiin tuotoksiinsa lukeutuu muun muassa laaja tähtitieteen esitys Almagestum novum vuodelta 1651.

Hace 5 días · Ifølge en rapport av Giovanni Battista Riccioli (1598–1671) fra 1635, observerte Leander Bandtius en stor flekk som han beskrev som «en oval, som tilsvarte 1/7 av Jupiters diameter på sitt lengste.» Riccioli omtalte Bandtius som abbeden av Dunisburgh og at denne hadde et «ekstraordinært teleskop».

Daar is eers gedink die kraters wat eerste deur Galileo gesien is, is vulkanies, totdat Richard Proctor in die 1870's voorgestel het hulle is deur botsings geskep.
