You’ll start at Clifford Place bus stations and pass through the beautiful Port Meadow, stop off at the historic Godstow Abbey, before wandering on towards the cosy Trout Inn. Stop off for a pint and some award-winning food before heading back to the city!
Jun 2018 • Couples. Close to Godstow Lock on the banks of the River Thames are the remains of Godstow Abbey. The ruins are located by a public footpath. For ruins they are in good condition, with most of the walls remaining, no roofs survive. A pleasant stop if walking along the River Thames.

Godstow. Godstow is a hamlet about two and a half miles north-west of the centre of Oxford. It stands on the Oxfordshire bank of the River Thames between the villages of Wolvercote to the east and Wytham (across the river in Berkshire) to the west. The ruins of Godstow Abbey, also known as Godstow Nunnery, are here.
Godstow Nunnery was founded in 1133 or earlier, and was dedicated to St Mary and St John the Baptist. It was founded by Edith of Winchester, and was approved by King Henry I. It was supposedly founded for 24 nuns. In 1445 there were 16 nuns and the abbess; 14 nuns, 3 junior nuns, a lay sister and the abbess in 1520; and 20 inmates in 1535 with ...
