Mâcon ( French pronunciation: [mɑ.kɔ̃] ⓘ ), historically anglicised as Mascon, is a city in east-central France. It is the prefecture of the department of Saône-et-Loire in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Mâcon is home to near 34,000 residents, who are referred to in French as Mâconnais.
Mâcon is the southernmost capital city in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It is at 65 kilometres (40 miles) north of Lyon and 400 kilometres (249 miles) from Paris. The city lies on the western (left) side of the Saône river, on the border with the Ain department.
Mâconnais. The Mâconnais district is located in the south of the Burgundy wine region in France, west of the Saône river. It takes its name from the town of Mâcon. It is best known as a source of good value white wines made from the Chardonnay grape; the wines from Pouilly-Fuissé are particularly sought-after.
