Hace 6 días · Around the year 900, the seafarer Gunnbjörn Ulfsson was on a voyage from Norway to Iceland and his ship was drifted towards a western coast, probably in the area of today's Cape Farvel on the southern tip of Greenland. He had sighted Icebergs, Skerries and a desolate, inhumane landscape and therefore did not go ashore

Gunnbjörn Ulfsson is given credit for being the first to sight Greenland, and at least one other attempt was made to colonize the island before Erik was successful.

28 de abr. de 2024 · Gunnbjörn Ulfsson around 930 during a voyage from Norway to Iceland was blown off course, and found some skerries (rocky islands) off the coast of Greenland. Greenland, up to then unknown, was therefore known as Gunnbjörn's Skerries until Eric the Red named it Greenland around 980.

Snaebjörn Galti had also tried, and failed, to establish a colony on the island several years before Erik rediscovered it.
