8 de may. de 2024 · Today’s Song of the Day comes from Jones’ post-Coltrane solo-period, which was rich with innovation. The tune is “Three Card Molly,” from the 1971 album Genesis. It’s one of Jones’ best-known tunes and a strong showcase for his remarkably consistent yet quietly eruptive style.

By the time Henderson's Mode for Joe was released in 1966, Blue Note was nearing the end of its days with Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff at the helm.

10 de may. de 2024 · Jones was known to give free concerts in Prisons and also gave lessons on music history and drumming. He died of heart failure in Englewood, New Jersey, on May 18 th 2004. Together with Art Blakey and Max Roach, Jones is considered one of the legendary jazz drummers to date.

The record came shortly after he had left The Jazz Messengers and was recorded in one session with an all-star quintet featuring trumpeter Lee Morgan, pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Elvin Jones.
