In 2005 it was used by around 42,000 passengers per day and is one of the largest passenger stations in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The station is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 2 station.

Es besteht nur noch der Altherrenverein; die Aktivitas wurde im September 2020 seitens der Altherrenschaft aufgelöst, nachdem es im Monat zuvor bei einer Veranstaltung im Haus der Normannia zu einem antisemitischen Gewaltverbrechen gekommen war.
