Contemporáneo de los pintores impresionistas, el francés Henri Fantin-Latour destacó por sus cuadros florales y sus retratos de grupo de los intelectuales parisienses de la época. Hijo del también pintor Théodore Fantin-Latour, que le inició en el arte de la pintura, asistió a clases en la École de Dessin de París.
