Henry Hyde, 2nd Earl of Clarendon, PC (2 June 1638 – 31 October 1709) was an English aristocrat and politician. He held high office at the beginning of the reign of his brother-in-law, King James II . Early life He was the eldest son of Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon, and his second wife, Frances Aylesbury.

His second son Laurence Hyde was also a politician and was created Earl of Rochester in 1682. Lord Clarendon's daughter Anne Hyde married the future King James II and was the mother of Queen Mary II and Queen Anne . Lord Clarendon was succeeded by his eldest son Henry, the second Earl.

Hyde, Henry (1638–1709), 2nd earl of Clarendon, lord lieutenant of Ireland , was born 2 June 1638, eldest son of Edward Hyde, 1st earl of Clarendon and lord chancellor of England, and his second wife Frances, daughter of Sir Thomas Aylesbury.
(1638–1709).Clarendon was the son of the lord chancellor, and brother of Anne Hyde, mother of Queen Mary and Queen Anne. On the accession of his brother‐in‐law James II in 1685, Clarendon and his younger brother Rochester were given high office. From 1685 to 1687 Clarendon held the privy seal and was lord‐lieutenant of Ireland.
