The following year King directed the Depression-era One More Spring and Way Down East, a remake of D.W. Griffith’s 1920 film, with Henry Fonda. In 1936 King directed a series of successful films, beginning with The Country Doctor, a novelty biopic about the Dionne quintuplets.
Henry King (1592–1669) was an English poet and Bishop of Chichester, known for his elegies, including a renowned one for his wife. A close friend of John Donne and influenced by Ben Jonson, King’s works reflect a deep Anglican faith and personal introspection. His bishopric tenure faced challenges during the interregnum.
In 1915 King found himself in Hollywood acting and directing "Little Mary Sunshine" movies for $100 a picture.
