For his nephew, known as Henry Seymour-Conway until 1794, see Lord Henry Seymour (politician). Field Marshal Henry Seymour Conway (1721 – 9 July 1795) was a British general and statesman. A brother of the 1st Marquess of Hertford, and cousin of Horace Walpole, he began his military career in the War of the Austrian Succession.
Henry Seymour Conway, (born 1721—died July 9, 1795, Park Place, near Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, Eng.), military commander and prominent British politician who urged moderate treatment of the American colonies. Conway began his military career while still in his teens and fought in the War of the Austrian Succession.
He was known as Hon. Henry Seymour-Conway until 1793, when his father was created a marquess; he then became Lord Henry Seymour-Conway, but dropped the surname of Conway after his father's death in 1794. Norris Castle Seymour-Conway was educated at Eton and Hertford College, Oxford, and took his MA from Merton College in 1767.

Field-Marshal Henry Seymour Conway was second son of Francis Seymour, first Lord Conway, by his third wife, Charlotte the daughter of Sir John Shorter, Lord Mayor of London, and sister of Catherine, wife of Sir Robert Walpole, Earl of Oxford. He was born in 1721 and entered the army at an early age.
