He was the elder son of President Herbert Clark Hoover (1874–1964) and First Lady Lou Henry (1874–1944). [2] He was named for his father, Herbert, and his maternal grandfather, Charles Delano Henry, but throughout his life was known as Herbert Hoover Jr. [3] His father, an engineer, was in London working for Bewick, Moreing & Co.

Herbert Jr. married Margaret Eva Watson in 1925. They had three children together, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Hoover (b. 1926), Herbert “Pete” Hoover III (b. 1927) and Joan Ledlie Hoover (b. 1930). Herbert Jr. died on July 9, 1969 after suffering from a stroke a few days earlier.
Hoover was inducted into the National Mining Hall of Fame in 1988 (inaugural class). His wife was inducted into the hall in 1990. Hoover was inducted into the Australian Prospectors and Miners' Hall of Fame in the category Directors and Management.
Herbert Hoover died on October 20, 1964. On October 25, the body of Herbert Hoover was interred in a simple grave on an Iowa hill overlooking the cottage where he was born. Works published by Herbert Hoover
