The Baroque Herrenhausen Gardens are the finest indication of what Hanover was like when it was a seat of power. The Great Garden, the Berggarten and the Georgengarten make for a unique setting boasting historical buildings, sculptures, fountains, water features and an orangery. Herrenhausen Palace is surrounded by the Great Garden.

Highlights of a visit include the parterres de broderie with sculptures and water features, the original baroque open-air theatre, the great fountain, and the grotto by Nikki de Saint Phalle.
Museum Herrenhausen Palace (Museum Schloss Herrenhausen), located at Schloss Herrenhausen and opened in May 2013 as a new department; Photo archives. The museum has one of the largest photo archives in Germany, holding around one million historical photographs for consultation and acquisition of reproductions.
