She was the maternal grandmother of George III of the United Kingdom . She was born Princess Magdalena Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst.
Gotha, 9 March 1746 – d. Gotha, 30 March 1746). August (b. Gotha, 14 August 1747 – d. Gotha, 28 September 1806). From 1748 to 1755 he was regent of the duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach on behalf of Ernst August II Konstantin. From 1750, he acted as regent alongside his kinsmen Franz Josias, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. He died in Gotha, aged 72.
In the redistribution of land among the Ernestine duchies that followed the death of the last Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg on 11 February 1825, the late Duke's nephew-in-law, Duke Ernst III of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, received Gotha, while he ceded Saalfeld to the Duke of Saxe-Meiningen.

Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (German: Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg) was a duchy ruled by the Ernestine branch of the House of Wettin in today's Thuringia, Germany. It was nominally created in 1672 when Frederick William III , the last duke of Saxe-Altenburg , died and Ernest I , Duke of Saxe-Gotha (who had married Frederick William's cousin, Elisabeth Sophie ), inherited the major part of his possessions.
Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg was a duchy ruled by the Ernestine branch of the House of Wettin in today's Thuringia, Germany. The extinction of the line in 1825 led to a major re-organisation of the Thuringian states.
