Hedd Wyn (nacido Ellis Humphrey Evans, 13 de enero de 1887 – 31 de julio de 1917) fue un poeta galés que perdió la vida en la Tercera Batalla de Ypres en el transcurso de la Primera Guerra Mundial. Hedd Wyn (born Ellis Humphrey Evans, 13 January 1887 – 31 July 1917) was a Welsh-language poet who was killed on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele during World War I. He was posthumously awarded the bard's chair at the 1917 National Eisteddfod.

Hace 3 días · Wyn had been a promising poet before the outbreak of the First World War but had not yet been awarded the highest prize a Welsh poet could be given, the chair at the National Eisteddfod. Born Ellis Humphrey Evans in Trawsfynydd, Meirionydd, Wyn was from a farming family.
Within the first few hours of conflict, Hedd Wyn was fatally wounded. The First World War claimed more than 16 million lives, both soldiers and civilians. Hedd Wyn (real name Ellis Humphrey Evans) is buried at Artillery Wood Commonwealth War Graves Cemetry in Belgium.

13 de ene. de 2024 · Born on January 13 1887, Ellis Humphrey Evans was the eldest child of Mary and Evan Evans and one of 11 siblings. He became known by his bardic name, Hedd Wyn (Blessed Peace). The family lived and worked at a remote farm outside Trawsfynydd in north-west Wales, called Yr Ysgwrn.
Yr Ysgwrn was the home of Ellis Humphrey Evans, better known as Hedd Wyn, one of Wales’s most famous poets. Although the farmhouse and its story represent the tragedy of the losses of the First World War, the farmhouse also reflects the social, cultural and agricultural history of the turn of the twentieth century.
