Kenny Barron (born June 9, 1943) is an American jazz pianist, who has appeared on hundreds of recordings as leader and sideman and is considered one of the most influential mainstream jazz pianists since the bebop era.
6 de mar. de 2024 · Kenny Barron had joined Yusef Lateef’s band in early 1971 and that experience Barron acknowledges as having been a key influence on his improvisational skills. This quartet also recorded Hush ‘N’ Thunder in sessions before and after the Avignon concert although none of the tunes on that album were performed at the concert.
1 de may. de 1998 · Hush 'N' Thunder is quite appropriately titled, mixing a nice combination of quieter elements (meditative / classical) with gospel and pure funk (it's notable that five of the seven tracks here are Kenny Barron compositions). Overall, it's interesting. But it is, perhaps, Lateef's least distinctive set in this collection. The Doctor Is In . . .
